It's been a really great event. I've made some wonderful contacts and added several new stores that will be carrying my jewelry! This particular show is a "wholesale only" event. Several people have asked me to explain what a wholesale show is and how it's different from a retail show?<br />
<br />
A wholesale show is typically only open to approved buyers from stores and businesses. These buyers purchase merchandise in quantity to resell to their customers. Most of the time they place orders which are fulfilled by the vendor later. There are very few "cash and carry" transactions - except at the very end of a show when some merchants sell their samples at a discounted price. This system can work very well for someone like me, who produces products by hand. I don't have to produce a lot of inventory for the show - only a sample of the products in my line. When I head home to start creating, the pieces that I make have already been purchased.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-xEwH2Z0onB3ZjT83iSiHnkebcMIatbEktYv8DOqJPf3_6oDVWx4AWoqT0kFtune5qfLkkV5e1lILzQB86GoJ8OSZgIB_67yGcdJ9Lj-PDmENiGxsr_GEiTK_iHngYLfXoSkCzmTX2DI3/s1600/01622d531f2abdbaf8d21d00b0dbf2f72afd0354f5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-xEwH2Z0onB3ZjT83iSiHnkebcMIatbEktYv8DOqJPf3_6oDVWx4AWoqT0kFtune5qfLkkV5e1lILzQB86GoJ8OSZgIB_67yGcdJ9Lj-PDmENiGxsr_GEiTK_iHngYLfXoSkCzmTX2DI3/s1600/01622d531f2abdbaf8d21d00b0dbf2f72afd0354f5.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">View down the aisle</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Wholesale shows are often quite large. I believe there are over 500 booths at this event. This event is a general gift show. The merchandise sold here covers a huge range of products; pretty much anything you could imagine selling at a store or boutique, you can find here. There are food products, clothing, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, artwork and the list goes on. Other wholesale shows focus on very specific segments of a particular market.<br />
<br />
The booth space is defined by what's called a "pipe and drape" system. Literally, they are connected pipes with drapes hanging from them! This is what mine looked like when I arrived last Thursday.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Empty Booth</td></tr>

The show promoter typically provides only basic set-up; in this case, a chair and a trash can. The vendor can rent tables, lights, and displays if needed. Since this show is close to home, I brought everything but overhead halogen lights. After a couple of hours of unpacking and assembly, my booth starts to take shape.<span id="goog_345216725"></span><span id="goog_345216726"></span><br />

<br />
Every show is a little different and the display is never exactly the same. Putting it all together is like a big jigsaw puzzle. It's all about height, levels and balance. My booth set-up has changed a lot of the years. I'm currently using natural slate pieces with white risers and gray tables. The colors work well with the jewelry and coordinate with my new logo.<br />

My booth did it's job Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Now it's Monday afternoon, the last day, and the event is winding down. In a few hours everyone will pack up and go home. Back to the studio tomorrow to start creating jewelry and shipping out orders! See you next time Denver Gift Show!<br />

"Simplicity does not precede complexity, but follows it." - Alan Perlis </div>
<br />
One of the reasons that I love working with metal, is the amazing changes you can make with just a few simple tools. I created these earrings using what are called metal "blanks" as a base. Blanks come in a variety of types of metal. You can buy them cut many ways, from basic shapes to more intricate patterns. Here I'm using simple sterling silver circles. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Circular silver blank. Not very exciting!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUvuscfhR1pUGkVmRj-YBWFw5MosQl-ARbY7IpqX5puuQiK2JQKp55Aif4tVhPtI7g7X5cFVQ2byNpuuNg4o-OV95A8yWR2TKaiwH1cLkKiMGzRSNZ5-dWxEsdc8kCR5QtJMW-p8JaqHl2/s1600/01cfe74a1e8cc8bf491e32b87c2bc6085d3dff691b_00001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUvuscfhR1pUGkVmRj-YBWFw5MosQl-ARbY7IpqX5puuQiK2JQKp55Aif4tVhPtI7g7X5cFVQ2byNpuuNg4o-OV95A8yWR2TKaiwH1cLkKiMGzRSNZ5-dWxEsdc8kCR5QtJMW-p8JaqHl2/s1600/01cfe74a1e8cc8bf491e32b87c2bc6085d3dff691b_00001.jpg" height="186" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I use a special hammer to add texture and put a hole in the top and bottom.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi824Ja0VeuCJ7_UiF3AZzSbdCwiGW5nMsQY0GMGQKQLuOpsB4CLeM84YA7czKdYfGZhT9ZN2B0rdOiy_xr10ChZE47NgAvv6EkEAKfnmns2zhbb6iCkgY3I-wm98QpwtIo6H6mvsDo77jO/s1600/pic2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi824Ja0VeuCJ7_UiF3AZzSbdCwiGW5nMsQY0GMGQKQLuOpsB4CLeM84YA7czKdYfGZhT9ZN2B0rdOiy_xr10ChZE47NgAvv6EkEAKfnmns2zhbb6iCkgY3I-wm98QpwtIo6H6mvsDo77jO/s1600/pic2.jpg" height="200" width="191" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then use a different hammer with a dapping block to<br />
curve the blank into a domed shape.</div>

<br />

After that, I use a polish pad to achieve a soft brushed finish and<br />
highlight the texture.</div>

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Candice Olson: interior designer. You may have seen her on HDTV. She's uber talented, classy, and elegant; yet always seems fun, down to earth and generally a great gal. I love her personal style as well as her fantastic color and design eye.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Alicia Florrick: TV's "The Good Wife". I know she's just a TV character, but she's pretty fabulous. Strong, resilient, smart, sexy. She's well spoken, tough and looks great in a business suit. I often think of her when I'm scared to speak up. WWAD?</span><br>
<br><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Marie Forleo:
Business coach. What can I say? Wow! Such an positive, inspirational
woman. She has a hugely successful company, has been on Oprah and hosts a
fabulous free business web show every week. The best part about Marie
is that she's not afraid to be herself! She's funny, kooky and always
entertaining. There's no one quite like her.</span><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Nancy Botwin: Another TV character. Nancy is from the Showtime series WEEDS. She's morally and legally challenged, self-serving and not always a girl your mother would approve of. So why is she on this list? She's a bad ass. I love Nancy, flaws and all. I think we'd all like to be as bad and brave as she is - at least once in a while.</span><br>
<br>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Brene Brown PHD: Author, speaker, scholar. Well known for her books Daring Greatly and The Gifts of Imperfection. She's an inspiration. Brene is the highly evolved person that the rest of us only aspire to be. Thank goodness she's in the world to show us what is possible. She reminds me of the very best qualities that people have to offer.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">That's my list of ladies to inspire me this year. All very different. I think they speak to parts of who I am and also who I'd like to be. I'll try to remember to flip to their page to remind me of what I'd like to achieve in 2014.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I'd love to hear about women that inspire you! Is there anyone that you think about when you need an extra dose of motivation?</span><br>

<div class="yiv1547078766MsoNormal">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Tahoma", "sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt;">Seems that I can't get enough of Bead Soup Parties! Kalmbach, publisher of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/0871164426" target="_blank">Lori Anderson's Bead Soup book</a>, decided to make some soup of their own and I just had to jump in with both feet! Designers were teamed with bead stores across the country and challenged to make a necklace - or two - with the goodies they received. I was lucky enough to be paired with a CO store called "Let It Bead".</span></div>
<div class="yiv1547078766MsoNormal">

my usual design style. I knew that I'd have to stretch as a designer to
make my creations. Having participated in a couple of Lori Anderson's
swaps, I was prepared and excited for the challenge! </span></div>

Come See What I Made!Welcome to my contribution to the 6th Bead Soup Blog Party! Just a quick refresher, <a href="http://lorianderson-beadsoupblogparty.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">the Bead Soup Blog Party (BSBP)</a> is a huge bead exchange that pairs jewelry designers together to trade beads (the "soup") and share what they create. It culminates in a crazy, fun, blog hop party reveal and that's where YOU have landed! <br />
<br />
My partner for this BSBP was the lovely and talented Grace Dorsey and this is what Grace sent me. GORGEOUS lampwork beads that this talented artist creates herself!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_GtkzGGsqvL-ZK-STukpiz8wEv1RwReNM4ZxK8FfLKj3hA9FyAk1LetNcblqBm-Y1d4dPonZYakrQ3CrNJn2EAwdIh7mE8YLHELepWRCGB32QG-vDS5klH8h0JumOq8hHqVlul50xpG8M/s1600/IMG_6370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="141" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_GtkzGGsqvL-ZK-STukpiz8wEv1RwReNM4ZxK8FfLKj3hA9FyAk1LetNcblqBm-Y1d4dPonZYakrQ3CrNJn2EAwdIh7mE8YLHELepWRCGB32QG-vDS5klH8h0JumOq8hHqVlul50xpG8M/s200/IMG_6370.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
I must have been inspired by Grace's beautiful beads, because I went a little nuts and made 9 pieces of jewelry with her soup: 3 necklaces, 2 fibula (pins), 2 pairs of earrings, and bracelet and a ring!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik1ZG_ZZIqdMQxElHNgi5llTTe6OviMZgpogMc0cfbDMDr1FcCW37ZGH14HbvWLrAmg7rw4t-33iUp5NAz5dZUY4NHHDolR5nH9vTTgrtmdiF_cnQbPZoORz1hT9vXNF-YVrECldT_8-0d/s1600/IMG_6347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik1ZG_ZZIqdMQxElHNgi5llTTe6OviMZgpogMc0cfbDMDr1FcCW37ZGH14HbvWLrAmg7rw4t-33iUp5NAz5dZUY4NHHDolR5nH9vTTgrtmdiF_cnQbPZoORz1hT9vXNF-YVrECldT_8-0d/s400/IMG_6347.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
As BSBP alum know, every soup has a focal bead and a clasp as part of the mix. The focal that I received was truly a piece of art. I knew that I wanted to made a necklace with it that was special enough to do the bead justice, yet simple enough so that the bead remained the focus of the piece. I created a bail for the bead out of heavy gauge copper wire and silver solder to accent and create a mixed metals effect.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPgkzxhtYaDRVecGsHVxC3wOQK4C0g1pGXFj7hN933ZtcStzTHXtqCkq2x-5rCeJAjkofPl-Bros5T4ci6EQVnbORFunSYU1ERzANM4Sccuj8kJpY9Gh2ytJ7Oa-mLSWwEJdeOtZk8j4yu/s1600/IMG_6363.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPgkzxhtYaDRVecGsHVxC3wOQK4C0g1pGXFj7hN933ZtcStzTHXtqCkq2x-5rCeJAjkofPl-Bros5T4ci6EQVnbORFunSYU1ERzANM4Sccuj8kJpY9Gh2ytJ7Oa-mLSWwEJdeOtZk8j4yu/s320/IMG_6363.JPG" width="306" /></a></div>
I strung the bail onto 2 pieces of leather and finished it with the toggle that was part of the bead soup. The metal of the toggle and the metal of the bail weren't working together, so I hammered and oxidized the toggle to give both elements the same rustic look. I really like the way that it turned out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio9WkFs1ctIHGjL3Pz2WVmCi0tBjliJhcbpTnlGwWvaQGKAj9UaDEcHnQLWdM85lTTyxCMF840gchNMgvuwJTD3y7twVlcFxDyVwxgfC8SRRzDCEYVpMM6-JNVjrwi0YM6JEhJg1Jylhjb/s1600/IMG_6364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio9WkFs1ctIHGjL3Pz2WVmCi0tBjliJhcbpTnlGwWvaQGKAj9UaDEcHnQLWdM85lTTyxCMF840gchNMgvuwJTD3y7twVlcFxDyVwxgfC8SRRzDCEYVpMM6-JNVjrwi0YM6JEhJg1Jylhjb/s400/IMG_6364.JPG" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
The following 2 necklaces were made by combining the beads with pure silver rings that I fused and hammered. Yum!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkOhJWYyjNgg49j-7AdTwYk4d-PUDBui6jfg8YuCmPhCOZ9C44GOh0LHitsTOdaUmjALReLCeUYEnQPR_9OG3JoghWXkUbiw54_9gzkvymtnwJZL8tKgaNaOJPrKa1LG5faLLU14D4Uj8u/s1600/IMG_6359.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkOhJWYyjNgg49j-7AdTwYk4d-PUDBui6jfg8YuCmPhCOZ9C44GOh0LHitsTOdaUmjALReLCeUYEnQPR_9OG3JoghWXkUbiw54_9gzkvymtnwJZL8tKgaNaOJPrKa1LG5faLLU14D4Uj8u/s320/IMG_6359.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

I was very pleased with the way the two fibula (a Fancy-Nancy name for brooch or scarf pin) turned out. I've never made these before and will definitely try them again. They'll look beautiful on a coat lapel or scarf.<br />

<br />
Couldn't resist a couple of pairs of cutie earrings!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
My favorite piece that came out of this BSBP was the bracelet. LOVE! These beads are so gorgeous that all they needed was some simple silver wire wrapping.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBDLBR9uG-Vv5cPCWhwP40AmFdAGNo9YI-ztQn2DI61qP26yGg8rpWU1YBF4JwoJ55TKEpPQRmHWmSuXbSy9s01fo2r5w1BVWD5YIk0se3s8Uigwai6KuOs2TRAMKHmpjeH7413cjbRQSa/s1600/IMG_6361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBDLBR9uG-Vv5cPCWhwP40AmFdAGNo9YI-ztQn2DI61qP26yGg8rpWU1YBF4JwoJ55TKEpPQRmHWmSuXbSy9s01fo2r5w1BVWD5YIk0se3s8Uigwai6KuOs2TRAMKHmpjeH7413cjbRQSa/s400/IMG_6361.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihpa_vhiCGYNkjZmhkBmQwiTC7d0f6cgoFWoWVxTUEiw5JPlVQeSxPG0IdYc-vT2HTP-2jk5TCIP6vANT0dS5KlTDM_ojhGGIXNnpy6-32oM6Z2nAZAfAAQDCeUA_f2mm5tOkUTIy5jG0f/s1600/IMG_6360.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihpa_vhiCGYNkjZmhkBmQwiTC7d0f6cgoFWoWVxTUEiw5JPlVQeSxPG0IdYc-vT2HTP-2jk5TCIP6vANT0dS5KlTDM_ojhGGIXNnpy6-32oM6Z2nAZAfAAQDCeUA_f2mm5tOkUTIy5jG0f/s320/IMG_6360.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally...the most challenging piece - the ring. Grace had included some lovely saucer like beads that were amazing, but I wasn't sure how to use them. After a lot of experimenting, I decided on this ring. The ring is all one piece of wire that starts with a spiral through the top beads then winds and zig-zags all the way around the band.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://lorianderson-beadsoupblogparty.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Bead Soup Blog Party 2012</a>! I'm so excited to be a part of this wonderful creative blog hop once again. If you're new to BSBP, let me fill you in. Bead Soup hostess and founder, <a href="http://lorianderson-beadsoupblogparty.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> Lori Anderson</a>, matches hundreds of jewelry makers all across the world with partners. Each artisan sends a mix of beads and components to their partner. You are then challenged to create jewelry using the materials you were sent. On a set reveal date, everyone posts pictures of their creations and "hops" from blog to blog to see what beautiful pieces were made. <br />
<br />
This year there were <b>400 participants from 45 US states and 25 countries</b>!! Here's a map that Miss Lori kindly created for us to share:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRck8bfVTZi_h7iygRhAW8F4_qvQ0MVuWYtrSiImgnI1iXBmkj7KxMW2TmLs2M5iMPIPmZnViTpxhl5XFG4tbamZapD_Yq-AAvD3cYs33uOwm5hUFmF3nHpqs0armEuoWPqcYikf8Nwc5B/s1600/BSBP6-total-map.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="182" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRck8bfVTZi_h7iygRhAW8F4_qvQ0MVuWYtrSiImgnI1iXBmkj7KxMW2TmLs2M5iMPIPmZnViTpxhl5XFG4tbamZapD_Yq-AAvD3cYs33uOwm5hUFmF3nHpqs0armEuoWPqcYikf8Nwc5B/s400/BSBP6-total-map.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Pretty amazing, huh? This is the 6th BSBP. It has become so successful that Lori even has a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Bead-Soup-Projects-Happens-Beaders/dp/0871164426/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1345569591&sr=1-1&keywords=bead+soup" target="_blank">book coming out about it in October</a>. <br />
<br />
One of the best parts of BSBP is getting matched with a partner. Your partner is a stranger to you before <span style="font-family: inherit;">the Blo</span>g Party is organized. That's part of the fun and creative challenge. If you're lucky, you're matched with an artisan who has a style or color sense that's different than your own, It's an excellent opportunity to stretch your talents and try something new that's out of your comfort zone. I think that because many of us work alone, we get caught up in our own favorite techniques. The BSBP provides exposure to the talents of other jewelry makers. It may even inspire you to try a new direction that you never considered.<br />
<br />
I was very lucky to be paired with an amazing lampwork artist this year, <a href="http://www.gracefulbeaddesigns.com/" target="_blank">Grace Dorsey</a>. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I have to tell you that I LOVE lampwork beads! I often buy them just because I think they're so beautiful. However, I've always been challenged to figure out how to use them in my jewelry making. So I was really excited, and a little intimidated, when I found out that my partner was a lampwork bead artist.</span><br />
<div style="font-family: inherit;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit;">
By coincidence, Grace and I both have roots in MS and NC. Our geopraphic similarities and the fact that she is so sweet to work with, made me feel more at ease immediately. Now to show you what <a href="http://fanoftheflame.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Grace</a> sent me!</div>
<br />
I'll start off with the packaging. The beads came in three lovely little envelopes and - no kidding - they smelled wonderful. Each had a little sachet inside - what a lovely touch!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBIPzJ-JJUzmQ3XXBihX8L6dTwWs7w_gIWDTstsAOcaD9hw4B330NeSA5-saW6dB2unr8c_hLVoL7vBHuPBhkMZNpfjAw0cX5OxlDf_8YwxFC7J8wzzZgSZxd6ohw6ljVX20HLEmoueApJ/s1600/IMG_5834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBIPzJ-JJUzmQ3XXBihX8L6dTwWs7w_gIWDTstsAOcaD9hw4B330NeSA5-saW6dB2unr8c_hLVoL7vBHuPBhkMZNpfjAw0cX5OxlDf_8YwxFC7J8wzzZgSZxd6ohw6ljVX20HLEmoueApJ/s400/IMG_5834.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are some of the beads that Grace created and sent to me. SO beautiful that I literately gasped when I opened the package.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFELfDFsuewL59SKq12ywSag_JTGVPHgZCUGyMukt-H8kViTgEAhk1_5Xnt2aT1oX2jSmtMXIwReg1U2nQ2fgQoviuCQWOC6JLTbWyHVzDT33FoXWFgmBJyM5DONE9VgldckZyx8j3QATJ/s1600/IMG_5843.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="323" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFELfDFsuewL59SKq12ywSag_JTGVPHgZCUGyMukt-H8kViTgEAhk1_5Xnt2aT1oX2jSmtMXIwReg1U2nQ2fgQoviuCQWOC6JLTbWyHVzDT33FoXWFgmBJyM5DONE9VgldckZyx8j3QATJ/s400/IMG_5843.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Can you believe those colors???? Love the purple, tan and gold hues. Here's another part of it. Love these "saucer" type beads.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiItcIBQLqcxlsIE6z4HLBWX714aW9wiylcsyYHitLE8yvhpdStkZ9GIRP6sPFNLy61tNoLvUq-4nWHtzLcmUsz0JYH-K3d8Hn9FyT0zJtfo0qnatzDpd6STfGYKYt5X-AAll8wnx2-QEPF/s1600/IMG_5839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="323" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiItcIBQLqcxlsIE6z4HLBWX714aW9wiylcsyYHitLE8yvhpdStkZ9GIRP6sPFNLy61tNoLvUq-4nWHtzLcmUsz0JYH-K3d8Hn9FyT0zJtfo0qnatzDpd6STfGYKYt5X-AAll8wnx2-QEPF/s400/IMG_5839.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Here are the pretty beads and clasp that she sent to compliment the lampwork:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib2VkIsiSc4D_14EyNK3qdDXIfIgANIjNl8GlHa4TVzk3fJDC_NKU8win7ZUfvyOhC9VVOK6qSAGEu8wWmvD16pRV8QiSbx5GXHVc8v_rz1s7Gtn8y2V4IFo9MaVre7jYhBzoBI5FBLZcx/s1600/IMG_5836.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib2VkIsiSc4D_14EyNK3qdDXIfIgANIjNl8GlHa4TVzk3fJDC_NKU8win7ZUfvyOhC9VVOK6qSAGEu8wWmvD16pRV8QiSbx5GXHVc8v_rz1s7Gtn8y2V4IFo9MaVre7jYhBzoBI5FBLZcx/s320/IMG_5836.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
...and one more shot of the lovely focal. I wish you could see this in person. It has a swirly milky color and depth that's hard to do justice in a photo.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I hit the partner jackpot, don't you think?! Tune in this Saturday for the big BSBH 2012 reveal. Here's a link to the post that Grace did about the Soup that I sent her: <a href="http://fanoftheflame.blogspot.com/2012/07/soup-from-jane.html" target="_blank"> Soup From Jane!</a> Very nice! Thanks Grace. <br />

Mostly with my iphone these days. Some are snapshots of daily life with my kids, but many are just quirky images that strike me. Not pictures to show or sell, just a little creative outlet for my own joy. (My family is generally annoyed when I make them stop so that I can take a picture of a random cloud, sign, 3 legged dog, etc... See photo above that I took while chaperoning a 6th grade field trip!) So... I cannot tell you how surprised and delighted I was when one of my creative heroes, Lori Anderson, picked a few of my shots for her new blogging ebook. <u><a href="http://www.prettythingsblog.com/2012/04/ebook-on-creative-blogging-prompts-is.html" target="_blank">FOLLOW THE PATH: Ideas and inspiration for the creative blogger. </a></u></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">Lori is an amazing writer and artist. I'm always in awe of how brave she is in sharing her own journey. I HIGHLY recommend <a href="http://www.prettythingsblog.com/2012/04/ebook-on-creative-blogging-prompts-is.html" target="_blank"><u>FOLLOW THE PATH</u></a> if you're looking for blogging prompts. It would be a fantastic tool if you like to journal off-line too or just need a creative boost! Don't we all need that some days? :) </span><br />

I had a great sales day last weekend at the <a href="http://www.littletongov.org/museum/craftfair.asp">Littleton Friends of the Museum craft fair</a> and almost sold out of my collage pendants. I use vintage images from books for the base of my collages and I needed some fresh material. Off to Goodwill to see if there were any treasures hiding in the book section. Here's what I found:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDBE6AIXllgp5j304X0AAhHNS1dqyhu5rEtNMqtQcl4CQA8TzqNfGob3n7odR1OGtaBXjREq3zkrPwyYECaID-Pjchxe1u1ucUfdeb9M2v6D5M0VI3romf7DYTsH5z0iwA48o13Ikv4q5Y/s1600/IMG_00065.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDBE6AIXllgp5j304X0AAhHNS1dqyhu5rEtNMqtQcl4CQA8TzqNfGob3n7odR1OGtaBXjREq3zkrPwyYECaID-Pjchxe1u1ucUfdeb9M2v6D5M0VI3romf7DYTsH5z0iwA48o13Ikv4q5Y/s320/IMG_00065.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>A great picture filled biography of John F Kennedy with a lot of beautiful pictures of Jackie. A 1950s parenting book filled with sweet line drawings of children and great text snippets. Another1950s book filled with terrific line art called "The Ape in Me" (?!) Huh? No idea what's up with that title.<br />
<br />

Have you heard of Marie Forleo yet? If not, listen up! She's a fantastic motivational speaker who's also sexy and hilarious. I get her email newsletter and had to share today's post and video. In it, Marie talks addresses the question, "am I too old to do what I love?". Great topic and one that many of us face, whether you're 24 or 54. My favorite part is a quote from Julia Cameron "Do you know how old I'll be by the time I learn to play the piano?" Answer: "The same age you'll be if you don't." Here's the link, enjoy!<br />

<br />
I've been so busy since I returned from The Creative Connection in St Paul, that I haven't shared any pics of the event! Here's just a small sample of the wonderful vendors in the marketplace. You couldn't turn around without bumping into amazing creativity! It was a little intimidating. Although, I've done many shows, both indoor and outdoor, I'd never been in one quite like the Creative Connection Marketplace.<br />
<br />
For starters, it was out of state - far out of state. As in, the distance between Denver and St Paul is over 900 miles! Driving 14 hours by myself didn't seem like a good use of time, so I flew. This meant figuring out how to get my show set-up to the event. Another blog post for another day . . . let's just say it was a learning experience. Secondly, this was a "pole and drape" show. This means the space is divided up by a series of metal poles with fabric hanging from them as dividers. This booth set-up is merchandised differently than the indoor shows I've done in the past. I'll switch some things around next time I'm in one of these to make better use of the drapery "walls" behind the displays. Here are a couple of pictures from my booth. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is a BIG party!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I was lucky in the partner that I was given for the swap. Geneva Collins, of <a href="http://www.torquestory.blogspot.com/">Torque Story</a>, was very kind and sent lovely beads. Some of the colors and textures were different than what I usually work with, but that's a good thing and part of the reason to participate in the event. Even creative people get stuck in their ruts. Working with materials that you haven't chosen is a fantastic brain stretcher. It's reminds me of when a group of my friends went to get pedicures together and the nail tech suggested that the group choose everyone's individual polish color for them. We ended up with toes we might not<span id="goog_1027461321"></span><span id="goog_1027461322"></span> have picked out ourselves but were mostly perfect for us. My friend Kathie has been wearing dark purple/black polish on her feet ever since!<br />
<br />
Here's the beads that I received from Geneva:<br />

For the first set that I made, I used the focal piece and clasp that she sent, some of the turquoise beads, and some of the silver spacers.<br />

I created big fun silver loops for the turquoise beads in both pieces. My way to insert an MJane detail!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrVubmm6KHKy3CBrgY5zilrtJBo2vpauXll-ltv_rwn7UZNlWMvoPNxDV6Q9-oDGRH-58Xe_e3URg4pUogrmZJFL1_L66R4Dzwhk5Hz67es9VTSco_zE-2851XLzYnM1uE38uKCQ1LyP1U/s1600/Bead+Soup+Final+Pics+Tur+Earring+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrVubmm6KHKy3CBrgY5zilrtJBo2vpauXll-ltv_rwn7UZNlWMvoPNxDV6Q9-oDGRH-58Xe_e3URg4pUogrmZJFL1_L66R4Dzwhk5Hz67es9VTSco_zE-2851XLzYnM1uE38uKCQ1LyP1U/s400/Bead+Soup+Final+Pics+Tur+Earring+008.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Geneva sent so many gorgeous beads that I had plenty left to make a second set. For these I used the light wooden beads she included and added my own silver heishi spacers and toggle.<br />

Here are the beautiful beads I got from my blog party partner </span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Geneva Collins of <a href="http://www.torquestory.blogspot.com/">Torque Story</a>! </span></span><br />

Whether you're making, buying or giving jewelry, the special touch of a beautifully crafted clasp really stands out. Here's a quick tutorial if you'd like to try one yourself. <br />
<br />
1. I like to use 16 gauge all soft wire to make my clasps. Start out with a 2" piece of wire. Straighten and clean with steel wool if necessary.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD3uNBdtDcULyEtrWSG3n0S4pPfQ5OBPJLe-z5EM4WwTDQbT1Vd6HosMB6NpPlOsadHU9xCg3nEFS0O8HykuE0d1HjOWfIiDwQlPUb23V8XoUu67SrccCxkQct_Kpry9793wyKUSOq-FuC/s1600/IMG_00053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD3uNBdtDcULyEtrWSG3n0S4pPfQ5OBPJLe-z5EM4WwTDQbT1Vd6HosMB6NpPlOsadHU9xCg3nEFS0O8HykuE0d1HjOWfIiDwQlPUb23V8XoUu67SrccCxkQct_Kpry9793wyKUSOq-FuC/s200/IMG_00053.jpg" width="149" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<br />
2. Make a loop at each end. One loop should be slightly smaller than the other. Use simple round nose pliers for this step.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAM9l2S23i-iG7u_D9nvsHr-FU7KKTz3K_p9ei7wTxVUdrcSungIRC3tCdFEmadD20Zd0pUR-435aQGMyoDO_aQC5UWfImVANZeEKQbD3jIwTjoQmgcK4KiokoPiR-m9VsT7TXD4EE6_yB/s1600/IMG_00054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="123" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAM9l2S23i-iG7u_D9nvsHr-FU7KKTz3K_p9ei7wTxVUdrcSungIRC3tCdFEmadD20Zd0pUR-435aQGMyoDO_aQC5UWfImVANZeEKQbD3jIwTjoQmgcK4KiokoPiR-m9VsT7TXD4EE6_yB/s200/IMG_00054.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
3. Bend the wire over either bailing pliers or the large base of round nose pliers. (You can even use a sharpie marker as a mandrel here!) Make the bend slightly off center, closer to the smaller loop.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVB_3XM7_NpfJ70yMk0oqLvhtfU50QDf5yHz7l1vbruatdD1F2oWvau7JThTFBKNNaPVtaMHJwixa4U5qrOOIUiKO0TgjZnqU0UaT8XlS2_hBnUFPSdBOA7iSlH4uDT4OlyRp1rzDtFqVJ/s1600/IMG_00055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVB_3XM7_NpfJ70yMk0oqLvhtfU50QDf5yHz7l1vbruatdD1F2oWvau7JThTFBKNNaPVtaMHJwixa4U5qrOOIUiKO0TgjZnqU0UaT8XlS2_hBnUFPSdBOA7iSlH4uDT4OlyRp1rzDtFqVJ/s200/IMG_00055.jpg" width="133" /></a></div><br />
4. Use a bench block and dapping hammer to add detail and work harden the clasp. This is where you can really add some personality.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJqpikXyu1V11bxUqRningzqdc6DgGgTUmCeYKNruXAsrIO5mIMqTa6yK7UEZiU6wj-fcZHqxj1bE55L2Lv87VBf0s2a3DdPlMeUVVbh2PKdaS6o4shGGAKVWcKqjnKTW-dCDvssCTVmeE/s1600/IMG_00056.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJqpikXyu1V11bxUqRningzqdc6DgGgTUmCeYKNruXAsrIO5mIMqTa6yK7UEZiU6wj-fcZHqxj1bE55L2Lv87VBf0s2a3DdPlMeUVVbh2PKdaS6o4shGGAKVWcKqjnKTW-dCDvssCTVmeE/s200/IMG_00056.jpg" width="133" /></a></div><br />
5. Voila! You're so awesome!! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQh4nfg9aOBhxJVZZSshVZYo117DYOpoK3ITmTfGJpW-1XBYjYhRI8KRZkrVwCz84VNmrBRYkFwOXCx2BXehwr6P1x9D8CM73u4azNZLo3OmAvC_5VV5ZDvPOd9bM86PnIW32fHWKDCXNa/s1600/IMG_00052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQh4nfg9aOBhxJVZZSshVZYo117DYOpoK3ITmTfGJpW-1XBYjYhRI8KRZkrVwCz84VNmrBRYkFwOXCx2BXehwr6P1x9D8CM73u4azNZLo3OmAvC_5VV5ZDvPOd9bM86PnIW32fHWKDCXNa/s200/IMG_00052.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
Get yourself a coil of copper wire for practicing and give it a try. It's much easier than you might think. Happy jewelry making!<br />

I'm going to be a vendor at the Creative Connection event in St.Paul, Minnesota next month! Really looking forward to being a part of what will be an amazing conference. Also, double fun, one of my BFFs is flying in from PA to help me out! Lots and lots to make between now and then as well as many logistics to figure out. I'll share more I promise. In the meantime, here's a link to their website. Check out all the amazing women that will be speaking and teaching! : ) Jane<br />

If you haven't heard of it, here's the scoop. Lori pairs jewelry makers from around the country and the world, they swap beads with their Bead Soup partner, and then make something with the beads they've received. On the day of the Blog Party everyone posts pictures of what they've created. The idea is to meet other jewelry designers and stretch your creativity using components you might not have chosen yourself. It's also an opportunity to discover new blogs and see what others have done with their Bead Soup components. (I'm sure I'll have many, "Hey! why didn't I think of that?" moments.) This Soup has 362 participants!!! That's a lot of pairing and organizing Lori! My partner is Geneva Collins and her blog is called <a href="http://www.torquestory.blogspot.com/">Torque Story</a>. Can't wait to see what she sends.<br />
<br />
We're not allowed to show what WE sent yet, but here's a little tease of what I shipped to Geneva.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7kJvp9UIztVh0CzwrEry29_esUs-Ui4IdyX_NyNwmwk2MBennQzSPo0GvZH5esTzBJp85n0wUzQXcJpA0AHfoDr4DdIwnKmeA6Hc69CFaIHBv_G19vihhvXgEwTx4nh3WJu0bJeenPQa_/s1600/15909311230.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="249" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7kJvp9UIztVh0CzwrEry29_esUs-Ui4IdyX_NyNwmwk2MBennQzSPo0GvZH5esTzBJp85n0wUzQXcJpA0AHfoDr4DdIwnKmeA6Hc69CFaIHBv_G19vihhvXgEwTx4nh3WJu0bJeenPQa_/s320/15909311230.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
It's really nerve racking to figure out what to send. Sort of like dressing for a first date. What should I send? Fancy? Casual? How much? Will she like it? Is it enough? Too much? I guess that's part of the experience too. The exercise really forces you to look at your bead stash from a different point of view. As in, "Why do I have so many green beads? I'm kind of in a color rut..."<br />
<br />
Look for pictures of my beads from my partner very soon! I know they'll be wonderful.Jane Haaghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09500063311982506996noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1808866826358359248.post-50478231163414162972011-08-15T09:00:00.001-06:002011-08-15T09:00:06.449-06:00More Vacation Photos<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Just downloaded more pics from my trip. Yea! Bad news: I have a 2 day show the week I get back and I'm low on inventory. Ouch! Gotta squeeze some jewelry making into my trip. What to take? What to carry it in? I can get myself and 3 kids packed up without breaking much of a sweat. But pack up my jewelry making supplies? I was breaking out in hives!<br />
<br />
To carry my supplies, I ended up using a travel organizer toiletry bag that I already had. It's sturdy and is big enough and has enough pockets to give me room and organization. I brought a set of letter stamps and a few design stamps: No wonder that these were checked by the TSA, huh? They look a little suspicious! <br />

(Actually, I love this and it doesn't take much convincing.) They come in a plastic tub that is generically marked "ladybugs".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEi_pJjHSIilBKnu9fRAM6ERyAthpX5QqA3yM6CrLC8HlJWjs3bcSV9OADq3IO1ObyagBG9DBFZiQ_IMZd89AK4xZPlGLtx_oEqGj23IY4hyphenhyphenCvqdXDN1SHwtl6yC4b2QbY65DGmXmTVjve/s1600/Ladybugs+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEi_pJjHSIilBKnu9fRAM6ERyAthpX5QqA3yM6CrLC8HlJWjs3bcSV9OADq3IO1ObyagBG9DBFZiQ_IMZd89AK4xZPlGLtx_oEqGj23IY4hyphenhyphenCvqdXDN1SHwtl6yC4b2QbY65DGmXmTVjve/s200/Ladybugs+004.jpg" width="149" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You are supposed to wait until dusk to let them out, which only adds to the kids anticipation. You release them, along with the food in their container, near low plants and hope that they will make your garden their new home. In the process, the ladybugs crawl and fly onto everyone.</div><br />

My daughter said my banner should now read “I make giant jewelry”! <br />
They came like this from <a href="http://www.nationsphotolab.com/" target="_blank">Nations Photo Lab</a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilRU7u_zJiP7qiVJjZV-sxvYoFp4H526n183aWD0a_TqZfXO2O_5hza40iuiod7GySg0AOTJQjC6Dh97jbfgYd6uF9imzfspPUsoyh8E1M-e8d6ErkLq5-wM1e1Z2Cv0lEhh5fWsM23mXb/s1600-h/IMG_3298%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_3298" border="0" height="132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjowsK0mYhYYHdAWAVky6b0wKh1NjasFq48Pn9LjzXaRDEfYnkdEWIuCbZHtXBdZ4V0Vu0-Gm6NofJeNShBkCgawzJHEtYYHrQ69a5SERaeIiV67XcGTiT_EVWnwAutmTSXGHYAsQj9Nnr3/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3298" width="244" /></a><br />
I went to my local FastSigns & they put grommets on the corners. Then another trip to Home Depot to figure out how to hang these big suckers from my booth back wall. I ended up with zip ties at the top, attached to cable wire. (jewelry makers: the thingy you use to hold the cable in a loop is a giant crimp tube!)<br />

I hung the pics from the top rail of my tent using <a href="http://www.bongoties.com/" target="_blank">Bongo Ties</a>, love these!<br />

None of these are rocket science, but if you’re new to this crazy business of setting up shop in a 10x10 outdoor booth, they might help you out.<br />
<h2>TUB TALK</h2>Try to consolidate the items you carry to shows into containers, like these storage tubs. Before you go to your show, while you have them all neat and organized, take a picture of what goes inside each tub & tape it to the inside of the box lid. Really helpful when you’re tired & packing-up at the end of a long day. Also great if other people are trying to help you and don’t know your system.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKSG5Jx-aeKcGkSbid0b6S7E0Jkk2m7bATtgvwwx5MmqRTEiDUGZA9gwJRihCONAFbmgZcNV6liKZh1JgO5u27KAZEnpqZbuAeQiG8EX9KWwDZRNAaWclddCN-xWheRuarzsOfQemk5Yn-/s1600-h/IMG_32693.jpg"><img alt="IMG_3269" border="0" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6qvyjD8-iuTyCcecYivxNUCjO9aAJjf9MnMMoMipgG4x4uowzrg1L2yk8D1RNUGaTZZfwNzWkwO3o65oCYNj6Xg0SPxbN5HFyl33Il8cgj553XdgCLKCi3dKhcD9Fwdv0ceVi5yxU7dn7/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3269" width="183" /></a><br />
<h2>RISE ABOVE</h2>If you’re selling small items, like jewelry, you’ll want to raise your tables higher than standard height so customers have a better view. (Also helps to deter curious little fingers!) I’ve tried several methods to raise my tables and these bed risers are the easiest to use and transport. Pick them up at any retailer that sells home goods, Target, Bed Bath Beyond, Wal-Mart, etc.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUepg3r7hUaUtiMIG4dprXhiAzIKVCqKyNghtDT24XbNzuxawzxuGrQkGFjTcJsPkVErMWR9NtpGqkK16FbRZIYktg13owoYBW1nRnuHqYHNyvunvUdQTJA-S-AYPLRKYUy9kqIuqAKWl7/s1600-h/IMG_3287%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_3287" border="0" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp8KysAtW2Lm-SSLJYhq33oK25FFIepVEeOSW8NtNOjk5bPMFXmA7g8Fd289sv_U8Hmcc08bdeMl4w_Zz2kk8njHIVZEDqFud7zchHzcZwYNMOVNscKAGmrvvBsbAP52U7iPd-sg0VGJoB/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3287" width="205" /></a><br />
<h2>HOLD ‘EM DOWN</h2>If you’re doing outdoor shows, the wind is your enemy. Actually, even a light breeze can even wreck havoc on your display. Behold the table cloth weights! These beauties are nice looking, inexpensive and HEAVY. I clip them on my displays, table covers, side walls…I might clip them on you if you stand still too long! I bought these on Amazon. Here’s the link: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Prodyne-TW-9-W-Tablecloth-Weights-Dwellers/dp/B000MUOUW2/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309380374&sr=8-1-fkmr0" target="_blank">Amazon, tablecloth weights</a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHUDxY7J5RKJJxv_Ol367Suh-SXBU1vhWacLmInAivDYxMjEQpXZZt7FhDBlFXGc7Dzj5kOTTAUrwYWQXi3AMwt8AT-7PDZH_Lm2SlW9oLWW72x4lFM8Df3whuxC4mMsdA_GPk9LfA7ZyP/s1600-h/IMG_3286%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_3286" border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWYf5JypjY7W7cMHbVe5vOX3-JhoCmleijqnqiinPV8CsJvGe1XY7P0-1TVYeuUSANC3ZZoAOVgfaD9YBlvhRmCwfdgEFNoa87skzpNg2Rp2ETwxRfN_fbuXEOQCW1jDO9rSUEgWef37uw/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3286" width="162" /></a><br />
DISPLAY DIVA<br />
A good display really can make the difference between customers stopping or walking right on by. It takes a lot of work to get it looking fantastic. If you’re doing shows frequently, you aren’t going to want to reinvent the wheel every time. I have a pic in a plastic sleeve of my basic set up, without merchandise:<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyM6ca_WSAlPLgI-YGPYxG08Xjf-1QuJyMwlpUKxL2bNJTS8HCahZ-y17BKkWTEcqBj4InQ01sHxuo9cK0YwYrJPugkpENcIyul3jGyLmfPrwIUrhZIGTD8S77iCyPjgE-eNaSYiv1fOBo/s1600-h/IMG_3284%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_3284" border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgaEAt6EoWM2IXNC58O_fvW8XWy-VLdhis8c8fcLFN8QWCI2aVlzuyxbyC9IdwEWeVCIQBhZOTT4qB0Sk9tNselnKu6SCtJk1Qxh50X5WEG588D4tlniDczEIL67yg-9IXjs86oJsf360X/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3284" width="244" /></a><br />
and with merchandise:<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8tSLKJEzRXSBrBtsL3pkt7k7akYHWL4K0LCPgTnlw25OJRMT6zGm3G0zh1SGUzfGnn7y0PePFqwhd5zM6bIlqevWzoU_9LB6AU4Z4i0KqRg3RHe6KTE-gfCeAPBCFBO-RXealqupxvCIj/s1600-h/IMG_3285%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_3285" border="0" height="183" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbPr-zj2mzjmw_D-GBoySDFq6GcqjAKcbOAZSeJfVeTltyPMKKbKZ9kz0Dm0XvvnPvNaCRlb3iECdXHLPqXWLQTC3C3CRu2UgaeT9RRxAx-efvKimEgagQ-D9RcnDgr2YFqF2qjQ93Em43/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3285" width="244" /></a><br />
Boy this is helpful. Because sometimes I’m running late, or I’m tired, or I had an extra glass of wine the night before. Or sometimes all three…and I need a little memory crutch. The booth still changes a bit every week, ‘cause I’m kind of a perfectionist. But having the basic framework at hand is fantastic. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEnbZ9iwD680rOFIcs2CHutthK3ZZBO9seLC7DqfYiwuncJMWsLp1vI7Z8TjeIhUTY-bGywEERgdiaHZH1p2CZFUAFSbYFueRyPwMEQ_EmstfbBHWSZ4rr3Lvxv9dGqZUeQBkGTS2VLWre/s1600-h/IMG_3275%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_3275" border="0" height="183" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwHdc6t4ueKoC4qLsJ1_gC-bGVcwUhCuXU27z-sUCb-9QoLc2jNGsnBjubpRaDDiMKimStQx0kcCbZvA8lpFR5ptzIrwyQbmzX191JNU5xuVT8GHIRh7Bl74AoWJFrPp0wCdxgKjOgnwOb/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3275" width="244" /></a><br />

There are always people who will tell you that what you're doing is not worthwhile. I've had some less than positive experiences lately. My share of self-doubt for sure. Some days it feels like every step forward is followed by 5 steps back. But no one blogs about those things, huh? Read people's blogs or Facebook status and it seems like everybody is just great. Not true. We are all struggling out here together. Ups and downs. Sometimes way more down than up! <br />
<br />
One of my necklaces was chosen this week as a finalist for voting in the Bead Star 2011 contest. This is at least the third year I've entered and I was very sure I wasn't going to make it this far. Bead Star works kind of like American Idol. Thousands enter, the judges choose the best 20 in each category, then readers pic the top 4 from each category. There are prizes, but more exciting is the publicity and recognition from Bead Star Magazine. A national publication entirely devoted to the winning designs!<br />
<br />
Every once in a while, you'll get a boost like this contest was for me. It can pump you right back up and get you going again. So keep pushing forward with your dream. Whatever it is. Be the one that hangs in there and tries one more time. It could make all the difference.<br />
